The Cornwall cross country teams will have all of Section 9 Class B trying to run them down this fall as they look to defend their sectional titles from a year ago.

For as good a season as it was for the boys’ team, it was an even better one for the girls as they went on to finish second at the New York state championship meet.

The girls’ team lost Kerry Murphy and Maris Potter off last year’s team, while the boys lost Oliver Jang.

Sophia Semo, Noemi Goitia, Olivia Cibrika and Kassandra Enos return for the girls’ team. Luke Potter and Noah Oroz return to the boys’ team. Lila Cabrera and Colin Lewis will each join the boys’ and girls’ teams this season.

“We have a nice mix of newcomers and veterans and a good number of athletes, so the coaches are excited for the fall season,” Cornwall coach Dave Feuer said.

The Dragons will start their season on Saturday at the Washingtonville High School Invitational and will open their league schedule on Oct. 1 when they host the Goshen Gladiators and Port Jervis Raiders.

They will host the Second Annual Freshman Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 22.

The Section 9 championship meet also will return to normal as it goes back to Bear Mountain State Park on Nov. 6. The park was closed last year due to flooding.

“We look to be very competitive and defend our Section 9 titles,” Feuer said.
