Dorothy L. Moores, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, at the age of 93.
Dorothy, commonly known as Dot, was born on December 30, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Kurt G. and Florence (Mead) Rauer.
Dot found joy and fulfillment in being a homemaker, a role she cherished throughout her life. She was known for her avid shopping, especially on QVC. The delivery driver grew to know her by first name. She had a keen sense of fashion and makeup, always staying stylish. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, with Paris, the Mediterranean, the Panama Canal, and the states of Florida and Maine being among her favorite destinations. In her early years, Dot was a skilled swimmer, earning numerous medals and accolades for her talents in the sport.
Dot will be remembered for her vibrant personality, love for adventure, and dedication to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a lifetime of love.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Morales of Marlboro, two sons, John (Joan) Neilson of Red Hook, and Albert (Sandra) Neilson of Newburgh; six grandchildren, Jessica (Kit Swain) Neilson, Adam Neilson, Tony (Cindy) Morales III, Nicole Dolan, Justin Vernooy, and Amber Neilson; and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Herbert S. Moores, in 2012, and son-in-law, Tony Morales Jr. in 2021. A graveside service was held on Monday, July 1 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Route 9W, Newburgh, NY.
