General Montgomery Day is fast approaching

General Montgomery Day is fast approaching on September 7. Start the day off with a Knights of Columbus sponsored Continental Breakfast 7:30 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Hall  and ending with fireworks. Please leave your dogs, skateboards, bikes and alcohol home for the safety of all. 

The General’s Charge is the newest Montgomery Day tradition. It is an approximately 1 mile walk, jog, stroll promptly at  10:15 a.m. It proceeds the parade and begins at the Airport Inn down Union St. to the Judge’s Grandstand.  This is a fun run, costumes,  team themes and creative ideas are encouraged.  There will even  be prizes awarded for the most creative individual and team costumes. 

Speaking of the  “Lolly’s” Airport Inn they are inviting all  to their Open Mic night. It will be held on Sept. 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. All musicians are welcome, everyone gets 15 minutes or 3 songs.

Mayor Mike Hembury wishes to report that village residents,  president of the Montgomery Little League and NYPD Detective Elvis Cole had the NY City Police Departments Women’s Softball Team visit the Village of Montgomery recently to conduct a softball clinic. The members of the women’s team mingled with the little league softball players and it was a great day for everyone.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 521 held their Fall Meeting. They are  planning a Yard Sale on October 5 at the Post on Rte. 208, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  This was their first meeting at the post and they had a great time discussing  accomplishments and upcoming events such as Montgomery Day, Veteran’s day and Pearl Harbor Day. 

The  MSC New Horizons is hosting a New To You fundraiser on September 24 at 1 p.m. The tickets are $5 per person, at the Senior Center and all are welcome.

Oktoberfest Wedding of Freida & Fritz Show trip will be on Thursday, October 24 at the Riverview Inn.  The cost  is $50 per person for the show, German style buffet and beer wine and soda.  Tickets are available, signup and meet new friends and old for a fun filled day. Bus will leave Montgomery Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. and return around 4 p.m. For additional information, please call the Montgomery Senior Center at 845-457-9367.

The 2024 Clinton St. Car Show will be held Sunday, Sept. 22. The time is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and registration is $20. All vehicles are welcome and proceeds will go to the Montgomery Food Pantry. Additional info can be obtained by calling 457-9661 or email events@villageofmontgomery.org.

The members of the Valley Central Scholarship Council are already planning events. Mark your calendars. The first item is a Fall SAT Prep Course. The SATs are now all digital and preparation for the new format is encouraged.  Registration is live on our website at www.VCSC1964.com.

There are 8 classes: 9/11, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 9/10,10/17, 10/24,10/30. They run from 5:45 to 8:15 pm. (First and last classes are on Wednesdays; all others are on Thursdays.)  The cost is $300 which includes the text. The money spent on this course could lead to a big return. The registration ends on Sept. 10th or until the class is full.

The 2nd item is the annual Duck Derby to be held on October 5th at the Montgomery Fire Department. The MFD members  assisted  last year when the Wallkill was running high and fast.  They created a slide-type track and the MFD came to the rescue with their water truck.  This year they will help them on their turf. Both events are live on the website: vcsc1964.com.   Our registration ends Sept.10 or until the class is full.

On September 11, Patriot Day  we remember one of the most horrific days in our history. It will be the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attack on our Country. It is important to take time to remember and reflect and to keep observant. Now more than ever if you see something, say something. God bless the USA.
