Goldbacks finish second in Section 9 track and field

It was a big day for the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks at the Section 9 Class A boys’ championships as the Goldbacks picked up four individual victories and two relay championships on their way to a second-place finish on Thursday at Rondout Valley High School in Accord.

The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders won the event with 182 points. The Goldbacks finished seventh in the girls’ meet with 40 points. Monroe-Woodbury won the overall team championship with 190 points.

Anthony Burnett and Anthony Barrett went Nos. 1 and 2 in the 110-meter hurdles with Burnett racing to a personal-best time of 14.81 seconds. Barrett came in at 15.15. Burnett also won the boys’ 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.16 seconds and Renaldo Lee was third with a personal-best time of 56.18 seconds. Barrett was fourth in 56.26.

David Pinnock won the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 48.64 seconds.

Brady Danyluk won the boys’ 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.10.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Barrett, Burnett, Pinnock and Devon Pinto had a winning time of 3:19.42 and the 3,200-meter relay team of Devin Batelic, Danyluk, Kendy Georges and Jimmie Kimbrough won their race in 8:06.31.

Natalia Sweat was second in the girls’ 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 7:39.67.
Savannah smith was third in the girls’ discus throw, reaching 89-04 and Roman D’Alfonso was sixth in the boys’ discus throw, reaching 115-02.

The boys’ 400-meter relay team of Pinto, Pinnock, Giwenn Eloge and Barrett was third with a time of 43.59. The girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Alexandra Swink, Natalia Sweat, Mary Jane Politi and Evangely Torres was third with a time of 10:13.09. The 1,600-meter relay team of Sweat, Swink, Jaslene Cheatham and Gabrielle Robles were third with a time of 4:08.03.

Gabrielle Robles was fourth in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 26.34 seconds and Alyssa Worrell was sixth with a personal-best time of 26.98 seconds. Robles also took sixth in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.99.

Jimeiris Morales was fourth in the girls’ high jump, clearing a personal best height of 4-8.
Victoria Frazier was fifth in the long jump, reaching a personal-best 15-7.75.
The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Kiana Peay, Robles, Crystal Beauford and Worrell was fifth in 51.24 seconds.
