Muller Avenue hosts a back-to-school blast!

A good, old-fashioned block party took place on Muller Ave. in Highland Falls on August 31 – children and adults streamed to the area to enjoy playtime (inflatables and chalking the street), food (barbecued chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers), talk to those who had set up information tables (the Community Garden at the Church of the Holy Innocents and New York State Police), dance (with DJ RedBottom), watch some awards be given out (to partners in the day including the Highland Falls-Newburgh NAACP), and to get free backpacks for school (courtesy of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club). Some scenes from the busy day are here; the event took place in front of St. John AME Zion Church, which was open for the use of the kitchen and other facilities. The event was coordinated by Highlands Town Councilman Tyrone King, with the help of local civic and service groups, individuals and businesses.
