New Windsor School students will begin the new academic year several days later than originally scheduled due to unexpected construction issues.
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District announced that the first day of school for New Windsor School students will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, rather than Sept. 3. The change applies only to New Windsor School.
The district attributed the delay to unforeseen issues during the school’s renovation, including additional asbestos abatement and a damaged supply shipment requiring replacements.
The building is expected to meet code compliance standards by Sept. 3, when teachers will begin setting up their classrooms. The district said some unfinished work will continue during evenings, weekends and Labor Day.
Kindergarten orientation will still be held Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
