The Pine Bush school board recognized students for outstanding achievement as well as retirees at its June 23 meeting.
Kristen Rossi, Spanish Department Chair, reported that 27 students received the Seal of Biliteracy, the highest number yet.
Teachers Andrew Bruno and Renee Ray presented 90 students with the Seal of Civic Readiness. Bruno said the purpose of the program is to develop “solid American citizens” and prepare students to “contribute positively to their communities.”
Superintendent Joseph Lenz announced that the National School Development Council honored four students for academic growth, student leadership and learning. The four students are Joe Capola, Amelia Favelar, Kate Magello and Leah Santa.
The board recognized a number of retirees, including Cara Robinson who served on the board for 12 years.
The board also announced new staff, including Erin Crispel and Eric Kaufman as assistant high school principals.
Denise Tzouganatos, high school vice principal, reported on the Extended Day Program, which enables students to earn credit during the school year so they don’t have to attend summer school. Of the 65 students who stayed in the program, 37 earned credits.
The board will next meet on July 14; it will be a reorganization meeting.
