The Pine Bush girls’ swimming and diving team has reached a remarkable milestone, winning its 90th consecutive dual meet.

Pine Bush defeated Valley Central, 108-70, on Sept. 16 to extend a winning streak that began nearly a decade ago, on Sept. 25, 2017.

Several Pine Bush swimmers turned in standout performances during the historic meet.

Anna Hajek won the 50-meter freestyle in 26.52 seconds and the 100-meter freestyle in 58.42 seconds. Norah Germano captured the 500-meter freestyle in 5:48.95, while Juliette Cassel won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:30.71.

Liana Williams added two individual victories, winning the 100-meter butterfly in 1:02.08 and the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:08.53.

Pine Bush also won both relay events.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Germano, Williams, Hajek and Lila Hanson finished first in 1:58.55. The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Williams, Hanson, Dakota Wilson and Sophia Gallagher also took first place in 1:50.84.

For head coach John Barth, the 90-meet streak represents much more than victories in the pool. He credited the commitment of the athletes, as well as their families, who have supported the program throughout the run.

“This is certainly a testament to the hard work and commitment from all the girls who have been part of this run,” Barth said. “My hope is that everyone who has been involved in this streak, from the swimmers and divers, to the parents, guardians and grandparents, look back on this time in their lives with pride knowing how hard everyone worked, not only in the pool, but in the gym and in making sure they were at practice, even when they didn’t feel like it.”

The victory over Valley Central extended a streak that has now spanned nearly nine years and included generations of Pine Bush swimmers.
