Firefighters aid person trapped in bucket lift

The Plattekill Fire Department successfully rescued an individual trapped 50 feet in the air on August 12 after a fallen tree limb damaged the control panel of a bucket lift.

The incident occurred at 7:52 p.m. during a scheduled department drill.

Units C2, C3, Engine 4, Rescue 5, and Ambulance 647 responded immediately, with Command requesting assistance from Cronomer Valley Fire Department’s Ladder 301. CVFD executed the extrication safely with the help of safety ladder belts and guidance from Past Chief Rich Tuttle. The individual was unharmed, and all units were back in service by 8:44 p.m.

Earlier in the evening, PFD responded to a medical call at 6:13 p.m., handled by Ambulance 647, which was back in service by 7:14 p.m.

Plattekill Fire Department has responded to 30 calls in August, bringing their yearly total to 566.
