‘Playground with the Principals’ kicks off a new school year

Mark Your Calendars! The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, Sept. 4. We’re excited to welcome our Dukes back for another great year!
Marlboro Elementary School’s Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 1-2 p.m. Keep an eye out for more details!

Playground with the Principals
Marlboro Elementary Principal Jena Thomas and Assistant Principal Sarah Amodeo will host a “Playground with the Principals” event on Friday, Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Grade 3-5 playground. Bring your kids for a fun time as we “swing” and “slide” into the new school year!

Middle School Orientation
Marlboro Middle School will hold orientation for Grade 6 and new students, along with their parents, on Thursday, Aug. 29. Two sessions are available:
Last names A-L: 8:30 a.m. in the Band Room
Last names M-Z: 10:30 a.m. in the Band Room

Knights of Columbus Corner
Father Hanley Council 7266 meets the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the parish hall. For membership inquiries, contact Joe Lopiccolo at (917) 657-8045.

Marlboro Free Library Events
MFL Walking Club
Wednesdays, Sept. 4 & 18, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Connect with your neighbors while enjoying the fresh air! Meeting locations will be posted one week prior. RSVP to be notified of cancellations.

Introduction to Researching Your Family History
Saturday, Sept. 14
Discover your family history with a genealogy presentation and workshop at the Library. Choose either or both:

Presentation (11 a.m. - 12 p.m.) Learn how to start a family tree, document findings, and explore free research websites. Walk-ins welcome.

Workshop (12 p.m. - 1 p.m.): Bring your family history as far back as you know, and staff will assist with your research. Registration is required only to reserve one of the Library’s laptops.
Wooden Card/Photo
Holder Craft Night

Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 6:30 p.m. Create a charming wooden card holder decorated with dried flowers. In-person event. Registration is required; no take-home kits available.
ACOTAR Adult Coloring Night

Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. Dive into the world of Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses with a night of coloring and discussion. Supplies provided. RSVP or just drop in!

Weekly Recipe:
Tea Room Lemon Pound Cake
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3 cups sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
1/2 cup shortening, room temp
5 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
6 Tbsp lemon juice
1 lemon, zested
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans or a Bundt pan. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Alternate adding dry mix and milk. Mix in lemon juice and zest. Pour into pans and bake for 55 minutes. Cool in pans for 15 minutes, then turn out onto racks.
