Residents have a blast at General Montgomery Day

Throughout the year, the Village of Montgomery and its volunteers treat residents to several events, including the food truck festival, National Night Out, the Clinton Street Car Show, An Olde Fashioned Holiday, and Operation Toy Train. Last Saturday, September 12, the village hosted its biggest event: General Montgomery Day, an all-day celebration boasting tons of food, games, music, vendors, and more.

Attendees began their day at The Holy Name of Mary Assumption Church , eating continental breakfast with the Knights of Columbus. They also stopped by the First Presbyterian Church’s bake sale and bought a few sweets. Once their stomachs were satisfied, attendees browsed dozens of vendors on Bridge and Clinton Street, purchasing various food and craft items in the process.

At 10:30 a.m., a massive parade took over Union and Clinton Street. Attendees clustered along the roadside, waving and cheering at festive floats, local organizations, marching bands, and first responder vehicles. Mary Lippincott, a longtime resident and active volunteer, led the parade as this year’s grand marshal.

Following the parade, families enjoyed several activities in Veterans Memorial Park. Children jumped for joy in bounce houses, played carnival games, dunked Valley Central coaches in a tank of water, felt cuteness aggression at 4-H Animal Squad’s petting zoo, and enjoyed pony rides. Many people also flew around the village in a chopper, courtesy of Independent Helicopters.

After checking out the vendors and activities, attendees relaxed and listened to performances from The Mustangs, Good Vibes, the Blackdirt Bandits, and Iron Cobra. Before the day ended, everyone went to the park and watched a glorious fireworks display, capping off another successful General Montgomery Day.

“It’s very crowded here,” said Dimitri Jacques, a village resident who came to the event with his friends. “I can’t wait to watch the fireworks tonight.”

“It’s my first time here and it’s been really fun,” said Natalie Wedvell, a Newburgh resident. “I like hanging out with my friends here, and there’s a lot of cool things here.”

“I love it! It’s always fun, and I’m excited for the fireworks later,” said Violet Zamfino, a Walden resident. “My favorite part is spending time with friends.”
