Safe Harbors’ annual gala coming in September

Greetings from River City. Labor Day! Do you believe it? We’ll be celebrating Halloween, Election Day and Thanksgiving before we know it… and can Christmas, Kwanza and 2025 be far behind!? It seems that it’s not just older people who think the days are going fast, but young people, as well. I’m beginning to wonder if the days are still 24 hours long….
  
Purchase a ticket to join Safe Harbors’ 2024 Gala on Thursday, September 12 at 6 p.m. for a beautiful evening and celebration on Safe Harbors Green, featuring Music from DJ Pete Pop and Special Guests, Catering from Orange Hill Restaurant, Libations from Newburgh Brewing Company and Liberty Street Liquors, Silent Auction, and 50/50 Raffle.

At the event, Safe Harbors will recognize Inaudy I. Gil, Executive Director of the Orange County Human Rights Commission, and their development partner Bronx Pro Group with our 2024 Cornerstone of the Community Awards. The annual Cornerstone of the Community Awards honor the vision, leadership, and hard work of community champions making positive change in Newburgh.

The annual gala is Safe Harbors largest fundraiser of the year, and proceeds from the event provide critical operating funds to continue their mission of transforming lives and building community through housing and the arts. “Your contribution, no matter what size, is vital to sustaining and expanding our work. Thank you for your support.”

Upcoming Bagel Hours: St. Francis of Assisi Church, September 8 after 8:30 a.m. Mass.

Film Night: On Friday, September 20 the film will be” Chariots of Fire” – a 1981 movie about the 1924 Olympics in Paris and two very competitive track stars – of different religious backgrounds and beliefs. 

The movie won 4 Oscars and both a best picture and musical score Academy Awards. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 6 p.m. Pizza, drinks and snacks will be served along with some good old fashioned fellowship. “Hope to see you there! Holy Hour: There will be a Holy Hour on Wednesdays from 3 - 4:30 p.m. Listed below are the dates and church where it will be held. Please note that church is subject to change. September 4 and 25 at Saint Patrick’s; September 11 and 18 at Saint Francis of Assisi.

Rosary: The Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited daily after the 9 a.m. Mass and on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. (before 10 a.m. Mass) and 11:30 a.m. (before the Noon Mass) every week at Sacred Heart for the intentions of Ukraine.

The Word of the Lord Weekly Bible Study: All are invited to a weekly Bible Study covering the Mass readings for the upcoming Sunday. No commitment is necessary. On Tuesdays from 1 -2:15 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church’s Chapel Bring your bible and a pen or pencil.
 
Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry Hours: Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 Noon; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 12 Noon at Sacred Heart School Gym, 240 South Robinson Avenue.

Please bring Canned Fruit to Church next weekend to be distributed to the less fortunate in our area. “We are experiencing a great increase in the client families coming to the Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry. We ask you to please help us by increasing your food donations to the pantry, so we can provide enough food for all our client families. Thank you so much for your continued help.

Please bring school supplies for the Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry Back to School distribution. The event is scheduled for August 30 and 31.

The Newburgh Young Adult Group are a group of young adults growing roots in the faith together. “Through the study of scripture, we have Christ centered discussions about topics that relate to our lives as young adults practicing our faith. Bereavement Program: As part of the Adult Formation and Activities of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish and St. Patrick’s, St. Mary’s and Our Lady of the Lake Parish, a Bereavement Support Group will be starting on Wednesday, September 11 from 2 - 4 p.m. every week for a total of eight sessions in the Chapel at Sacred Heart Church, 25 Robinson Avenue.

Individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one are invited to attend.
