Highland volleyball sweeps Dover, Poughkeepsie
Highland’s girls volleyball team picked up two Mid-Hudson Athletic League victories during the past week, sweeping Dover and Poughkeepsie.
The Huskies defeated Dover 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 on Sept. 18. Raegan DeVall had five kills, three digs and five aces. Logan VanZandt contributed 10 digs and six aces, while Avery Sosnick had three kills, eight assists, two digs and three aces.
Highland also swept Poughkeepsie on Sept. 15, winning 25-10, 25-16, 25-7. VanZandt had three kills, nine digs and seven aces. Kailyn DeQuarto added five kills and three aces, while Sosnick had 11 assists and three kills.
Highland boys golf defeats Ellenville
Highland’s boys golf team defeated Ellenville 161-199 on Sept. 15 at Apple Greens, a par-35 course.
Nicholas Welch led the Huskies with a 36, one over par, while Jack Coleman shot 38, three over par.
Michael Pangia and Elijah Pangia each shot 45 for Ellenville.
Highland improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in division play. Ellenville fell to 0-3.
Mount Academy girls remain unbeaten with three wins
Mount Academy’s girls soccer team remained unbeaten, improving to 6-0 after three victories during the past week.
The Eagles defeated Roosevelt 5-0 on Sept. 18. Shannon Clement scored three goals and had two assists, while Sophiat Hassan scored twice and added an assist. Temitope Adejumo, Jayna Zumpe and Marleah Vanderhoof also recorded assists.
Myla Maas made one save and Leanna Wiser made three as Mount Academy combined for the shutout. Roosevelt goalkeeper Caitlyn Qaquish made seven saves.
Mount Academy defeated Red Hook 7-1 on Sept. 16. Clement and Hassan again led the offense, scoring three and two goals, respectively. Carina Page and Biene Clement also scored. The Eagles received assists from Clement, Hassan, Vanderhoof, Biene Clement, Page and Zumpe.
Maas and Wiser each made one save for Mount Academy. Amelia Petkos made seven saves for Red Hook.
The Eagles opened the week with an 8-0 victory over Marlboro on Sept. 14. Hassan scored three goals, while Clement added two. Nina Wright, Adejumo and Zumpe also scored.
Clement had two assists, while Hassan, Wright, Adejumo, Jaclyn Maendel, Nina Barton and Asia Swinger each had one. Maas and Wiser each made one save. Marlboro goalkeeper Angela Delfini made 10 saves.
Mount Academy boys post two shutouts
Mount Academy’s boys soccer team remained unbeaten with two shutout victories during the past week.
The Eagles defeated Red Hook 5-0 on Sept. 17. Eric Loewenthal scored three goals, while Colin Rimes and Declan Hine each added one. Jaiden West recorded an assist, and goalkeeper Davis King made two saves for the shutout. Red Hook goalkeeper Alastair Mayer made six saves.
Mount Academy also defeated Marlboro 3-0 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League road match on Sept. 16. Beckett King scored twice and Colin Rimes added a goal.
Donovan Barton, Eric Loewenthal and Damon King each recorded an assist. Andrew Kusi-Appiah made two saves and Davis King made one as the Eagles preserved the clean sheet.
Mount Academy improved to 4-0 overall following the Red Hook victory.
Wallkill earns first win with 41-0 shutout
Wallkill’s football team picked up its first victory of the season Friday, blanking Poughkeepsie 41-0 in a non-league game.
The host Panthers (1-2) built a 35-0 halftime lead before adding another touchdown in the second half.
Quincy Rogers scored two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown. Quarterback Alex Mikesh threw touchdown passes to RJ Meyer and Anthony Daley, while Ryan Ronk added a rushing touchdown.
DJ Moore recorded three sacks for Wallkill, and Braydn Nicoli had an interception.
Wallkill will host Monticello at 7 p.m. Friday in another non-league game.
