SUNY Plus classes help build job skills

SUNY Orange Plus announces its Fall listing of courses available to Hudson Valley residents interested in obtaining their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or those pursuing certifications in selected healthcare, food, beverage, hospitality or advanced manufacturing areas.

SUNY Orange Plus programs are designed to meet student needs with affordable, flexible and convenient courses allowing students to access quality training. Courses are crafted to efficiently train or upskill students so they can compete for rewarding careers with sustainable salaries and comprehensive benefits.

Weekday CDL Class A training courses, involving four weeks of courses, will begin on the following dates: September 16, October 14, November 12 and December 9, while weekend CDL Class A courses start on October 5 and November 30. Interested students must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.

Healthcare-related certification courses will begin on the following dates: Certified Medical Billing and Coding (October 21), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (October 21), Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (October 28) and Certified Pharmacy Technician (November 12).

The College’s Manufacturing Machine Operator course, leading to a HAAS certification, will begin on Nov. 4. This program prepares job seekers with the skills needed to work in a manufacturing environment. It covers basic principles of automated systems, equipment inspection, lubrication, alignment, and scheduled maintenance procedures. Emphasis is on assessing machines and using various measuring instruments.

In collaboration with Orange County FoodTEC, SUNY Orange Plus has scheduled a 15-week Culinary Arts Workforce Training Program to begin on Sept. 3. This course is targeted for those already working in the food industry along with those who have a desire to work within a professional kitchen.

FoodTEC will also offer three ServSafe accredited courses this Fall, including a one-day ServSafe Food Handlers courses in both English (September 12) and Spanish (October 10), as well as the two-day ServSafe Manager Course (October 22 and 24). The ServSafe Alcohol Course, a one-day program that ensures front-of-house staff can serve alcohol responsibly, will be offered on Nov. 18.

FoodTEC has also scheduled a four-session OSHA 30 General Industry safety course (September 19-20 and 26-27) as well as a four-day HACCP Training Course (November 5, 7, 12 and 14) and a one-day AHLEI American Hotel and Lodging Guest Service Gold course (November 21).
