The Town of Newburgh has approved an additional $105,000 to continue mapping its stormwater system after field work identified more catch basins than originally estimated.
The project initially anticipated about 2000 catch basins but Consultant MJ Engineering now estimates there may be about 2800 throughout the town. So far, 1800 catch basins have been mapped and inspected, while another 800 have been mapped but still need to be inspected and photographed. About 200 additional catch basins are estimated to remain unmapped. The consultant has also mapped and inspected 610 end sections.
The Town Board approved the additional funding during its Aug. 10 meeting. Of the $105,000, $100,000 will go toward additional field inventory and inspection work and $5000 toward GIS mapping preparation. The work is being completed to meet state Department of Environmental Conservation MS4 stormwater regulations.
