Walking Monument Tour of Walden Sept. 19

Have you ever heard of the Hudson River Valley Ramble? I hadn’t before this week, so with the help of Mary Ellen Matise, I learned some more about it. According to their website- hudsonrivervalleyramble.com- the ramble is a collection of events held throughout the month of September, celebrating the Hudson River Valley’s historic sites and trail systems. Some of these events include historic site tours, hikes, bikes and paddles. You can search for events on their website based on the type of activity or event, features of the event (family friendly, wheelchair accessible, etc.), or date range and location of event. You can also follow their Facebook page for the latest events and updates- Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area.

One of these events featured in the Ramble is the Walden Monument Walking Tour. On Saturday, September 19 the tour will begin at 12p.m. at the Jacob T. Walden House. It will begin with a slide program about the Village monuments at the Walden House, followed by a walk to each of these monuments. This event will be held rain or shine, with only the indoor presentation at the Walden House in the event of rain. If you haven’t done the walking tour yet, it is definitely worth the walk. It’s interesting to hear the history of monuments we’ve all passed by countless times. For information or questions about the walking tour call 845-778-1369.

And while you’re on the Hudson River Valley Ramble’s website, be sure to check out all the other local events going on- so much to learn and explore!
