Montgomery minors advance in District 19 play

The Montgomery Minors softball team entered Monday’s action one win away from entering the championship bracket of the District 19 tournament.

Competing in Bracket A, Montgomery won its first two games before falling to Warwick in the Bracket championship game.

Pine Bush won its first game of Bracket A play but lost its next two and was eliminated.

Wallkill Area and Town of Wallkill opened Bracket B play with a game against each other, which the Town won before falling to Goshen. They won their first consolation bracket game before falling to Otisville on Saturday.

Wallkill Area rebounded from its first loss to beat Washingtonville in the consolation bracket. They were eliminated on Friday by Otisville.

Bracket A
Montgomery 10, Monroe-Woodbury 0
Montgomery opened the tournament with a 10-run over Monroe-Woodbury on Wednesday at Washingtonville on Wednesday.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Montgomery scored three runs in the first, another in the second, and then two each in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Pine Bush 10, Town of Newburgh 8
It took two days, but Pine Bush broke a 5-5 tie with five runs in the fifth inning to open the tournament with a win over Town of Newburgh at Port Jervis Little League.
The game started on Wednesday but could not be completed due to inclement weather and was suspended in the fifth inning and resumed on Thursday.

Newburgh answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the deficit to two runs.
Pine Bush led 5-2 after the first two innings, but Newburgh scored three runs in the third to tie the game at 5-5.

Montgomery 2, Pine Bush 0
Montgomery still hasn’t given up a run through two tournament games as they beat Pine Bush on Friday at the Town of Wallkill for their second straight shutout.
Montgomery got both of its runs in the first inning. Pine Bush didn’t have a hit in the game.

Cornwall 10, Pine Bush 0
Cornwall scored four runs in the first inning, and limited Pine Bush to no hits, as they eliminated Pine Bush on Saturday at Goshen Little League.
The game was called after five innings by the 10-run rule.

Warwick 16, Montgomery 0

Montgomery ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday at Goshen, suffering their first loss of the tournament.

Warwick scored nine runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second inning.
Montgomery didn’t get any hits in a game that ended after three innings by the 10-run rule.

Bracket B
Town of Wallkill 10, Wallkill Area 4
The Town of Wallkill opened a three-run lead after the first inning and expanded it to seven runs after the third, opening the tournament with a win over Wallkill Area on Wednesday at Greenwood Lake.

Town of Wallkill did all their damage on one hit. Wallkill Area pitchers issued 17 walks. Wallkill Area had 13 hits.

Wallkill Area 17, Washingtonville 6
Wallkill Area scored seven runs in the first inning and eight more in the fourth as they pounded Washingtonville, 17-6 on Thursday at Pine Bush.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Washingtonville cut Wallkill Area’s lead to 7-6 before Wallkill Area scored two runs to take a three-run lead in the third before exploding in the fourth.

Goshen 20, Town of Wallkill 2
Goshen sent Town of Wallkill to the consolation bracket with an 18-run win on Thursday at Town of Newburgh.

Town of Wallkill 27, Florida 3
Town of Wallkill eliminated Florida from the tournament with a blowout win on Friday at Town of Newburgh.

Otisville 27, Wallkill Area 11

Otisville broke a 3-3 tie with seven runs in the top of the second inning to eliminate Wallkill Area from the tournament on Friday at Pine Bush.
Otisville scored seven more runs in the third and put up 10 in the fourth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Wallkill scored one in the second, three in the third, and four more in the fourth, but were unable to stave off elimination.

Otisville 18, Town of Wallkill 8
Otisville scored 13 runs in the first two innings as they eliminated Town of Wallkill from the tournament on Saturday at Veteran’s Park in Montgomery.

Otisville led 15-0 before Town of Wallkill got on the board with six runs in the third inning.
The game was called after four innings by the 10-run rule.
