New benches grace Olley Community Park

On May 18th, Bill and Susan Taylor had the honor of attending a dedication ceremony of benches located at Olley Park in Walden, that were donated by Wallkill Lodge 627 F. & A. M. and Messco Supply Co. These benches provide a place for veterans or individuals to sit and talk to a friend as needed.

Walden Senior Club members send Happy Birthday wishes to Olga Conway June 2; Elaine Uhl June 17; Juanita VanGelder June 24; and Joan Scism June 29. May they all enjoy their special day.

Bob Greene, newly elected President of Walden Senior Club sends word that The Walden Seniors will be hosting a trip to Saratoga Casino for all seniors on Tuesday, August 6. Cost is $12 to participate. Call Gloria Santora at (845) 778-1582 for information.

Sixteenth Annual Flag Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, June 9th at 11am at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 150 West Main Street, Walden. This event is sponsored by the Walden Veterans Memorial Park Committee and Walden Community Council. Keith Hunter will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Please remember to attend to honor they symbol of our country.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will host Thrifting in the Square on Saturdays throughout the summer!

Join us every Saturday from June 29-August 31 from 9 a.m. to noon in the St. Andrew’s Church Hall, located at 15 Walnut Street in Walden, to check out a variety of items, including clothes (new and gently used), housewares, furniture, kitchen items, baked goods and more!

Village of Walden will hold Summer Camp 2024 at James W. Olley Community Park. Camp runs Monday, July 8 to Thursday, August 16. Children 5 - 15 are welcome to join. Sign up and register now at waldenrecreation.sportngin.com.

Fee schedule - Half-day program 9am - 1pm. Village of Walden Residents: $100. Town of Montgomery Residents: $125. Non-Town of Montgomery Residents: $150. Full Day program 9a.m. - 5p.m.

The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:

The library will close early on Thursday, May 30, 6 p.m. for staff development.

The First Floor Main Circulation area will be closed for two days - Friday, June 7, and Saturday June 8, for minor repairs and construction. The second-floor library will remain open. Please use the front police entrance to access the elevator to the second floor.
Join our local ornithologist, Bill Fiero, for “Good Birding Vietnam: Southeast Asian Birding”, Tuesday, June 4, 6:30 p.m. Bill will offer insight to their culture, environment, and birds specific to that part of the world. Light refreshments will be served.  

Our Family Movie Musical will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 5:30 p.m. for “Spongebob Live on Stage.” Snacks will be provided.

Author visit!  “Stitching Love and Loss; a Gee’s Bend Quilt,” with Dr. Lisa Gail Collins of Vassar College on Thursday, June 13, 6 p.m. This is a story of grief, a quilt, community, and the perseverance and creativity of the African American women quilters.
