Pine Bush initiates summer meals program

Are you in need of healthy, hot meals for your children this summer? The Pine Bush Central School District, in association with the Summer Food Service Program, will provide free breakfast and lunch to children 18 years and under in the Circleville Church at 890 Goshen Turnpike from July 8 to August 23. Parents can drop off their children between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to receive their meals; no sign-up is required and everyone is welcome regardless of residency.

Additionally, Pine Bush children enrolled in the school district’s summer programs or the town’s summer camp programs will also receive free meals through SFSP. These locations include Pine Bush Elementary School, Pakansink Elementary School, Crispell Middle School, Pine Bush Senior High School, Town of Crawford Park, Circleville Park, Mamakating Town Park, and Verkeerderkill Park.

SFSP, also known as SUN Meals, is a USDA-funded initiative that partners with hundreds of schools and neighborhoods across the country every year to minimize food insecurity. The Pine Bush CSD has participated in the program for 15 years, ensuring that no child goes home on an empty stomach.

“The kids love it and it’s great to help out the community,” said Judi Vanduzer, officer manager of the district’s nutrition department. “We know that food scarcity has been a pressing issue so we’re happy to provide this program to families.”

For more information, contact the district’s nutrition office at (845) 744-2031 ext. 4827. To learn more about the program, visitfns.usda.gov/summer/sunmeals.
