Saint Baldrick’s event raises $50K for cancer research

Walden Senior Club members send Happy Birthday wishes to Dottie Post (May 3), Gloria Santora (May 11), and Lois Kelder (May 14). May they all enjoy their special day.

The Walden Senior Club members meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month 12 noon at the Anita L. Vandermark Community Center. New members are welcome. For information contact Bob Green at 845-457-4361.

Walden Rotary Club members send Happy Birthday wishes to Mike Snyder (May 8) and Ken Schliphack (May 19) and also Happy Anniversary wishes to Keith and Rachel Millspaugh (May 9) and Tina and David Johnson (May 26).

Kristie Hall sends word that the 17th annual Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s took place on Saturday, April 27.

This year the events have raised approximately $50,000 bringing the total for the last 17 years to approximately $700,000 for childhood cancer research. This year we had 36 shavees and are hoping to recruit some more next year. If you are interested in participating and raising money for next April’s event, please reach out to Kristie 845-629-3444.

Reminder that the Historical Society of Walden and Wallkill Valley will hold a session to learn a safe way to clean gravestones on May 11 at 10 a.m. at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery.

Please bring a bucket, clean nylon brush and a gallon of water. The cost is $10 per person to offset the cost of cleaning solutions. Pre-registration is required; call Lisa at 845-527-0639.

Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department presents Flag Football 2024, for online registration, please visit waldenrecreation.sportngin.com.

Games will tentatively begin in June at Bradley Park (48 Samuel E. Wright Way, Walden). Players Ages 5-14 are welcome.

The cost is $50 for village of Walden Residents and $60 for non-village residents. For information please contact the Recreation and Parks Department at 845-778-2177 ext. 1524.

The Walden Community Council will meet on May 15 Sweeter than Sweet Cupcakes at 6:30 p.m. and will continue with plans for Walden’s 37th Annual Harvest Festival on September 28.

This event will return to Walden’s Municipal Square. You will find entertainment by live music, great vendors, food, frog jumping contest, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Child ID, free petting zoo, bounce houses for kids and more. The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:

Our next Rail Trail Bird Walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 8:30 a.m. with local ornithologist Bill Fiero. Patrons can meet at the library to carpool, or at Kimball Park where we will begin the walk.

Consider joining us for an easy expedition along the Walden-Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Wear your most comfortable shoes and don’t forget the binoculars! This is a family friendly activity.

The next Family Movie Musical will be Wednesday, May 16, 6 p.m. and will feature the film, “Mama Mia.” Join us for a fun evening of music based on the Broadway sensation. Light refreshments will be served.
Christine Adams will return to the library for Spring Felting on Thursday, May 16, 6 p.m.
