Spaghetti dinner to benefit Sager family

The Walden Fire Department sends Congratulations to Patrick Primavera, Cody Delmonico and Aiden Gregorio. The three members completed the New York State Firefighter 1 course on May 4. We are very proud of our fire department.

Congratulations to Marisa Kraus for being named to the 2024 Municipal Clerks Honor Roll.

May 6 was a very exciting day at the Jacob T. Walden House. MAX Home Improvement Corporation, a remodeling company based in Port Jervis, replaced the roof. They are a very well-run and impressive company. The Historical Society of Walden and Wallkill Valley are thankful for their generosity.

A very informative presentation was given by Msgt Jennifer Caoili and 1Lt Kyle Kilner at the Anita L. Vandermark Community Center on May 8.

This training session taught the participants to have the proper tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster. Each family received an emergency information handbook and a preparedness kit.

I received word from Gabriel Gonzalez, Scout Master of Troop 33 in Walden. Troop will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, May 18 - $10, between 5 - 8 p.m. at the First Reformed Church, 20 Scofield Street, Walden.

Blue Mass will be celebrated at the Most Precious Blood Church, 42 Walnut Street, Walden, on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. All Police, Fire, Corrections, EMS and Military are invited to attend.

If you have served any time in any of these services, active duty or retired, please come and be recognized for your service to our community and country.

The Mass is open to anyone who would like to come and honor these individuals. All faiths welcomed.

The Walden Humane Society presents rescue readers on Friday, May 17, 4 - 6 p.m. at the shelter, 2489 Albany Post Road.

Who doesn’t love being told a story? Our dogs and cats are no different. Sign up for a 30-minute session after hours. Each session is broken into 15 minutes of reading, followed by 15 minutes of socialization with an adoptable pet. Sessions are limited to 1 child + 1 adult. Open to all students of reading age. RSVP required.

Catholic Conversations will meet on May 23 at 7 p.m. in Fr. Sullivan Hall. May is the month we honor the Blessed Mother of God and so Mary is the topic of our meeting. Please join us to share your devotion to Our Blessed Mother or perhaps a prayer answered through her intersession. A new topic is chosen each month and meetings are held to all. The Walden Fire Department will be holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Sager Family on May 30, 2024 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Walden Firehouse on 230 Old Orange Avenue. As many may know, Larry was seriously injured in a tragic accident and the proceeds of this dinner will benefit his family greatly while he recovers. The cost is $15 per person. The Village of Walden will hold Summer Camp 2024 at James W. Olley Community Park. Camp runs Monday, July 8 to Thursday, August 16. Children 5 - 15 are welcome to join. Sign up and register now at waldenrecreation.sportngin.com.

“Don’t Get Ticked!” May is National Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Ticks can carry multiple diseases that pose serious health issues. Come and learn about ticks and tick-borne diseases on Wednesday, May 22, 6 p.m. “Tick Kits” will be available for optional purchase of $10. These clip-on pouches include everything you need to safely remove ticks or to send an embedded tick for disease screening.

The Library will be closed on Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
