If you saw Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps members walking around the community on Saturday evening, you may have noticed two things.

One, they were probably walking slowly. That’s because they were probably exhausted! Their day began before 7 a.m., as they set up Main Street for the 31st annual Fall Foliage Festival. The event went on until 4 p.m., at which time THAC members were still hard at work breaking down the area of Main Street where the festival took place.

But the second thing you may have noticed is that most of them were still smiling. That’s because the day went off without a hitch – vendors were happy, visitors were happy, and thus, the THAC was happy.

The festival is the corps’ largest annual fundraiser. It featured food and craft vendors, community groups, entertainment, live animals (did you take a turn holding one of the NJ Snake Man’s snakes?) and delicious smelling, and tasting, food. Local police and firefighters were also on hand, and both local thrift shops were open. The West Point Museum and Visitor’s Center benefited from the crowd on Main St., and local children happily roamed the festival, both on foot and on motorized cars that were an attraction.
