History comes alive on Twin Forts Day

Reenactors from the 5th New York Regiment, Lambs and Mott’s Artillery Companies, showed spectators how muskets were fired during the Revolutionary War, and specifically at Fort Montgomery. The reenactors, as well as ladies spinning wool, musicians, cannon-firing demonstrations, and dramatic performances about an eight-year-old ‘soldier’ at Fort Montgomery all took place on October 5 as the Fort Montgomery State Historic Site celebrated Twin Forts Day.

If you missed it, you can still attend the last Thursday Evening Speakers Series at the battle site (690 Rt. 9W, Fort Montgomery). The topic is “They were Good Soldiers: African Americans serving in the Continental Army, 1775-1783.” It’s at 7 p.m. that evening; call 845-446-2134 to reserve a seat. John Rees will speak, and sign copies of his book on that topic after the event.
