Greetings from River City.  My beloved sister, Maurena is scheduled for a series of serious medical tests. She has asked for prayers, feeling confident of those of you who offer prayers. 
Please, if you will, pray that she gets better news than is expected in these upcoming tests. I know I ask much of all of you, but you see, I love my sister, dearly.  

The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highland reminds you that it’s not too late to register for our upcoming “Croquet in the Park” event! This will be a fun afternoon of croquet in Downing Park, Newburgh on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 - 5 p.m. (rain date: Sept. 18). Be sure to pre-register online before September 7 or call us at (845) 561-2585 (you may also visit our website at newburghhistoricalsociety.com for more information). Tickets are $20 for a family of up to five people, $15 for twosomes, and $10 for singles. Please note there are no refunds and all sales are final. Please make sure you register by September 7; there will be an additional $5 fee for late entrants. 

City of Newburgh Water Department Superintendent Wayne Vradenburgh invites you to its upcoming Water Filtration Plant Tour and Open House to see first-hand how water travels from its source to your tap. 

The Water Filtration Plant tour begins on September 10, at 12 p.m. at 493 Little Britain Road, Newburgh, NY 12550. The tour includes a Q&A session with City Staff, a Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment system tour, a Distribution tour, and a Lab tour. All interested parties should call the Water Department to reserve a spot at (845) 565-3356.  

Participants will be treated to a tour led by the City of Newburgh Water Superintendent Wayne Vradenburgh and learn how the City of Newburgh Water Department provides City residents with water of the highest possible quality that meets all domestic, commercial and fire protection needs. To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, participants must follow social distancing and face-covering policies. 
 
Newburgh Arts & Cultural Commission Regular Meeting Day Change: The regular meeting dates of the Newburgh Arts and Cultural Commission (“NACC”) have been changed. The regular meetings of the NACC will now be held on the third Monday of every month beginning at 6 p.m. The next NACC meeting is on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. The Newburgh Arts & Cultural Commission will conduct this meeting in person at 124 Grand Street and remotely through Zoom videoconference. 
 
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Michael Ruben Rivera who passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 24.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up by Michael Lebron to help the family meet the funeral expenses who wrote a very touching tribute to Michael Ruben Rivera on GoFundMe. 
 
Safe Harbors Annual Gala Celebrating Community takes place on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. “We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to Safe Harbors Green for our Annual Gala. We are proud to be honoring 2022 Cornerstones of the Community, Newburgh Champion, Rene Campos and Corporate Good Neighbor, Walden Savings Bank.” 

Enjoy an evening of community, festive fare, an unique array of auction items, and live music.  Catering by Orange Hill Global Bistro and featuring special musical guests Corey Glover and Neil Alexander. Elyse Goldberg, Washington’s Headquarters Historic Site Manager, invites you to “Let’s go fly a kite! - up to the highest height! Come to Washington’s Headquarters on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 2 - 4 p.m. and do just that at our annual “Kites Over The Hudson,” a Hudson River Valley Ramble event. Free kites will be given to the first 150 children, ages 15 and under. Refreshments will also be provided. 

Admission is free for the day, compliments of the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands, who also provided the kites. Admission includes a guided tour of the historic Headquarters and the freedom to explore the Museum, which houses such exhibits as Unpacked & Rediscovered: Selections from Washington’s Headquarters’ Collection, George Washington: Perspectives on His Life and Legacy, The Preservation of Washington’s Headquarters, and the Junior Curator Project 2020.   

The grounds, Museum and historic Hasbrouck House are open on Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m.  For further details and to make tour reservations, call (845) 562-1195. 
 
Effective Immediately: There is a temporary stop of collecting food for Mary’s Hope until further notice. Please keep Suzanna Campora in your prayers as she recovers from a bad fall.  If you have questions, please contact Suzanna at (845) 561-5162.  We hope and pray that you are already healing and will be well very soon, dear Suzanna.  

Starting Sept. 2, on the First Friday of each month, Adoration will be at follows: Sacred Heart Church following the 9 a.m. Mass until 11 a.m.,  St. Francis Church from 4 – 6 p.m.  
The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. (before 10 a.m. Mass) each week at Sacred Heart Church for the intentions of Ukraine. 
 
 Please pray for our children as they go back to school - for their safety and well-being, both in and out of it.
