Ryan Holds in-district swearing in ceremony, open house

Congressman Pat Ryan held his in-district swearing in ceremony and an open house, Saturday, with his staff to directly help constituents access critical services from federal agencies.

“I promised all of you I’d bring the fight for our fundamental freedoms down to Washington, and we are certainly hitting the ground running,” said Ryan. “In just the last two weeks, I’ve helped pass a number of critical pieces of legislation, including increased funding for our local police departments, a bill to reform the Electoral Count Act so that there will never be another January 6th, and sanctions against supporters of Putin’s unjust war in Ukraine. In the weeks to come, I expect to cast additional votes on critical programs that will directly benefit the people of our district.”

Ryan also spoke about the recently introduced “Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act,” his bill to protect a woman’s right to healthcare.

“A woman’s right to choose is one of this country’s foundational freedoms, and there is no place for government interference in these private medical decisions,” continued Ryan. “Extremist state lawmakers are restricting access to FDA-approved abortion medication and even threatening to open Americans’ mail to stop the delivery of doctor-prescribed healthcare services. This legislation would ensure that women across the country can access this safe and effective medical treatment.”

Ryan was sworn in to the House of Representatives on Sept. 14. He was elected on August 23 to fill the remainder of now Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado’s term.

“This is a moment of immense consequence and challenge for our country — I believe it is truly an all-hands-on-deck moment for our democracy,” said Ryan. “And I pledge that I will fight every single day — with every ounce of my being — to deliver for the people of New York’s 19th District, and to renew trust and faith in our great nation.”

Ryan, a fifth-generation Ulster County native, decorated combat veteran, small business owner, and the former Ulster County Executive was joined at the swearing in ceremony by his wife, Rebecca, and his two young children, Theo and Cameron.

In his first days in office, Ryan was appointed to the House Armed Services Committee.

“When I graduated from West Point eighteen years ago, I took a solemn oath to protect and defend our Constitution and our country – it is my great honor to continue that service as the newest member of the House Armed Services Committee,” said Ryan.

Ryan’s district office is located at 256 Clinton Ave. in Kingston. It can be reached at (845) 443–2930.
